This comprehensive course is our next progressive step in our foundational pistol training series. Completion of our Basic Pistol course is required, or an equivalent course (USPSA / IDPA classification) before you attend the Intermediate Pistol course. The student MUST possess the knowledge and ability to physically demonstrate how to safely load, fire, and unload a pistol.
Students failing to meet and maintain our safety requirements and/or who cannot meet and immediately demonstrate the required minimum skills for this specific course may be removed from the training. Course Overview:
This course is taught by an NRA certified instructor with a law enforcement and competitive shooting sports background that provides hands-on training for the novice/intermediate pistol owner who seeks to develop, strengthen, and improve their foundational pistol skills. This course is interactive, and the students will be immersed in techniques that will aid in developing their mental, physical, and visual aptitude to further enhance their principle and mechanical pistol handling abilities.
There is ample opportunity in the classroom and range to achieve the desired practical knowledge in this casual and stress-free learning environment. You’ll find this course to suit your needs and strengthen your pistol handling skills!
The course duration is approximately 4 hours, depending on class size and number of questions asked, which includes a 3-hour live fire practical session.
Course Outline:
· Overview of the universal firearms safety rules.
· Demonstrate administrative in-service loading and unloading pistol techniques.
· Marksmanship fundamentals (stance, grip, sight alignment, sight picture, breath control, trigger
control and follow-through). --interactive dry practice exercise--
· Mindset preparation and execution.
· Aiming concepts (Sight Focus vs Target Focus).
· Concepts of Predictive and Reactive shooting techniques.
· Static shooting positions.
· Target transition principles.
· Introduction to strong-hand and support hand shooting.
· Introduction to cover and concealment.
· Introduction to use of barricades and obstacles.
· Concepts of immediate actions.
· Pistol presentation from the holster to a target index point and safe recovery back to the holster.
· Preventative maintenance (cleaning, maintenance, and inspection).
· After-action course review.
Practical Skill Exercise:
· Perform a pistol safety/function check.
· Administrative in-service loading and unloading pistol techniques.
· Marksmanship live fire exercise.
· Demonstrate Sight Focus and Target Focus techniques.
· Perform Student/Instructor calibration live-fire exercise.
· Perform a target transition live-fire exercise.
· Strong-hand to Support-hand live-fire exercise.
· Perform various reload drills (emergency, tactical, magazine exchange)
· Draw pistol to an index point on target (live fire) and safe recovery back to the holster.
Required Equipment: (May be available to rent at the host location)
· Full-size, carry, compact or micro semi-automatic pistol or revolver. (Iron sights or Micro Optic
equipped)
--Students can rent a pistol/revolver at location if rental firearms are available.
· Hearing protection (passive or electronic).
· Eye protection—wraparound eyewear, polycarbonate lenses or non-shattering prescription glasses.
· Rigid Gun Belt (1.5” or wider)—contact us for additional questions.
· Outside the Waistband (OWB) Holster (strong-side only – no IWB, cross-draw, appendix, etc.) (No
Nylon, Cloth, or SERPA style holsters)—contact us for additional questions.
· Sturdy magazine pouch or pouches that can hold 2 magazines securely.
· Note taking material (notepad and pen/pencil).
· At least 3 pistol magazines or revolver speed loaders.
· 350 rounds of range approved ammunition.
· Must be at least 21 years of age with a valid state ID or U.S. Government issued ID (Passport or
