Prerequisite:
The Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA) defines a "qualified retired law enforcement officer" as "an individual who separated from service in good standing from service with a public agency as a law enforcement officer" and who meets all additional LEOSA requirements listed below.
Arizona Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA) application requirements:
18 USC 926C(c) Defines a “Qualified Retired Law Enforcement Officer" as an individual who:
- Separated from service in good standing with a public agency as a law enforcement officer; and
- Before such separation, was authorized by law to engage in or supervise the prevention, detection, investigation, or prosecution of, or the incarceration of any person for, any violation of law, and had statutory powers of arrest; and
- Before such separation, served as a law enforcement officer for an aggregate of 10 years or more; or
- Separated from service with such agency, after completing any applicable probationary period of such service, due to a service-connected disability, as determined by such agency; and
- Has not been officially found by a qualified medical professional employed by the agency to be unqualified for reasons relating to mental health; or
- Has not entered into an agreement with the agency from which the individual is separating from service in which the individual acknowledges he or she is not qualified under this section for reasons relating to mental health; and
- Is not under the influence of alcohol or another intoxicating or hallucinatory drug or substance; and
- Is not prohibited by Federal law from receiving a firearm
Course Outline:
The applicant will complete the required forty (40) round firearm qualification course as outlined by the State of Arizona statute and Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training (AZ POST) Board to satisfy the required annual firearm qualification as required by HR218 / Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act. The applicant will also complete a judgmental shooting evaluation upon completion of the AZ POST firearm qualification.
AZ POST Firearm Qualification (effective as of January 1, 2024)
1. The qualification is a 40-round course of fire.
2. Qualification is shot on a TQ-21 or TQ-19 target, 5 points per round.
3. Minimum passing score is 170 (84%) out of a maximum score of 200.

Required Equipment:
· Full-size, carry, compact or micro semi-automatic pistol or revolver with iron sights or micro-optic
equipped sights are good.
· At least 3 properly functioning pistol magazines or 3 properly functioning revolver speed loaders if
using a revolver.
· Hearing protection (passive or electronic).
· Eye protection—wraparound eyewear, polycarbonate lenses or non-shattering prescription
glasses.
· Rigid gun belt to at least secure your holster and any accessories being used. (1.5” or wider)—

· Outside the Waistband (OWB) or Inside the Waistband (IWB) holsters are fine (NO cross-draw,
Nylon, Cloth, or SERPA style holsters)—contact us for additional questions.
· At least 60 rounds of range approved ammunition--contact us for additional questions regarding
ammunition type.
Course Occupancy Notification:
The LEOSA firearm qualifications are by APPOINTMENT ONLY and are kept relatively small so that qualifications can be completed without any unnecessary delays.
