Course Overview:
This non-firing course is taught by an NRA certified instructor with a law enforcement and competitive shooting sports background and is designed for the new or novice pistol owner that teaches the basic firearms knowledge, skills, and mindset necessary for the safe handling and storage of your pistol and ammunition. This course is interactive, and students are encouraged to participate for a more informative experience.
The course duration is approximately 2 hours, depending on class size and number of questions asked.
Take charge of your family’s safety and get the basic knowledge and skills to safely handle or store firearms and ammunition in your home, office, or vehicle.
Course Outline:
· Universal firearms safety rules.
· Responsible firearms ownership and legalities.
· Components and operation of the semi-auto pistol and revolver (interactive dry practice
exercise).
· Types, components, and purposes of modern ammunition.
· Administrative in-service loading and unloading pistol/revolver techniques.
· Basic marksmanship fundamentals (stance, grip, sight alignment, sight picture, breath control,
trigger control and follow-through).
· Safety concerns and practices while at the range.
· Holster selection.
· Safe storage and security.
· Preventative maintenance (cleaning, maintenance, and inspection).
Practical Skill Exercise:
· Perform a safety/function check.
· Safely load and unload a magazine/cylinder.
· Safely load and unload a pistol/revolver.
· Demonstrate safe storage and security of pistol/revolver.
Required Equipment:
· Full-size, carry, compact or micro semi-automatic pistol or revolver. (Iron sight or Micro Optic
equipped)
· 1 properly functioning magazine or properly functioning revolver speed loader if using a revolver.
· Note taking material (notepad and pen/pencil).
· Must be at least 21 years of age with a valid state ID or U.S. Government issued ID (Passport or
