This intermediate course is part of our rifle training series for the student that wants to gain the knowledge on how to operate in a low-light environment. This course will focus heavily on the use of the rifle mounted light and other outside forms of illumination to effectively communicate, search, navigate, target identify, control, and engage potential threats in a reduced light environment.
Completion of our Defensive Rifle course is required, or an equivalent course before you attend the Reduced-Light Rifle course. The student MUST possess the knowledge and ability to physically demonstrate how to safely load, fire, and unload a rifle.
Students failing to meet and maintain our safety requirements and/or who cannot meet and immediately demonstrate the required minimum skills for this specific course may be removed from the training. Course Overview:
This course is taught by an NRA certified instructor with a real-world law enforcement background, experienced in reduced-light encounters who will provide hands-on training for the intermediate to advance rifle owner who seeks to develop, strengthen, and improve their reduced-light rifle techniques. This course is interactive, requiring mental preparation, physical awareness, and the student’s ability to apply reduced-light techniques that may include the use of ambient light to obtain an acceptable sight picture or identify potential threats.
You’ll discover the essentials of selecting the appropriate light source or rifle-mounted light and will gain practical skills on how to properly deploy them in a reduced-light environment.
You’ll discover the essentials of selecting the appropriate rifle mounted weapon light and will gain the practical skills on how to properly deploy your rifle in a reduced-light environment. There is ample opportunity in the classroom and range to achieve the desired practical knowledge in this casual and stress-free learning environment.
The course duration is approximately 4 hours, depending on class size and number of questions asked, which includes a 3-hour live fire practical session.
Course Outline:
· Overview of the universal firearms safety rules.
· Demonstrate administrative in-service loading and unloading rifle techniques in a low-light
environment.
· Overview of marksmanship fundamentals.
· Physiological effects of the human eye in light and reduced-light environment.
· The principles of low light.
· Controlling movement and light discipline within confined spaces and structures.
· Elements of efficient movement and visual awareness with light sources.
· Reduced-light techniques with a rifle.
· After-action course review.
Practical Skill Exercise:
· Perform a ready function check in reduced-light environment.
· Utilizing light sources around objects and structures (live fire).
· Perform threat identification utilizing rifle mount light.
· Demonstrate search and control techniques with a rifle. (classroom)
· Perform barricade and cover techniques with a rifle (live fire).
· Perform various reload drills (emergency, tactical, magazine exchange) with a rifle in a low-light
environment.
Required Equipment: (Some items may be available to rent at the host location)
· Semi-auto rifle/carbine with iron or optical sight. (no 22 caliber rifles).
--Rental firearms may be available at location if available.
· Weapon mounted light.
· Handheld flashlight.
· Hearing protection (passive or electronic).
· Eye protection—wraparound eyewear, polycarbonate lenses or non-shattering prescription glasses.
· Note taking material (notepad and pen/pencil).

· Rigid gun belt (1.5” or wider) along with a sturdy magazine pouch or pouches that can hold rifle
magazines securely.
· At least 3 rifle magazines.
· Casual, comfortable clothing suitable for training in any weather.
· Closed toe shoes, footwear suitable for rapid movement and turning.
· Shooting gloves, Knee pads and Elbow pads (optional for student’s comfort level).
· 400 rounds of range approved rifle ammunition. (No green tip, armor piercing, steel penetrator, or
tracer)
· Must be at least 18 years of age with a valid state ID or U.S. Government issued ID (Passport or
